About Matchbook Learning

Matchbook Learning is a non-profit charter management organization based in Indianapolis, Indiana. We operate two schools: Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63, serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and The Match High School and Career Center, which currently serves 9th grade and 10th students and will expand to include 11th grade students in the fall of 2026.

We are currently seeking a School Social Worker to join our Elementary Team at Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63.

Position Overview

The School Social Worker improves student well-being by providing counseling, crisis intervention, and support services to at-risk students. They collaborate with families, staff, and community resources to promote social-emotional development and remove barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct social-emotional support and crisis response
  • Develop individualized support plans for students
  • Facilitate small groups focused on SEL and coping skills
  • Collaborate with the MTSS team and participate in IEP meetings
  • Connect families to external services and support systems
  • Maintain accurate, confidential documentation (FERPA compliance)
  • Support trauma-informed and restorative practices across the school

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work.
  • Certification: Valid Indiana Student Services License and LCSW, or LSW (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience: Previous experience working with elementary or middle school students is strongly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to create a positive and inclusive environment.
    • Commitment to professional growth and development.
    • Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, kneel, and sit on the floor to work with students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years teaching experience in an urban or low-income setting.
  • Demonstrated a record of success in supporting student growth and well-being in a school setting (experience as a school social worker preferred; internship or practicum experience considered)
  • Familiarity with current educational technology and digital learning tools.
  • Demonstrated an understanding of how to effectively analyze student data
  • English/Spanish bilingual
